Life doesn’t always stay on the course you’ve plotted for yourself, around 31 million people in Pakistan are expected to be living with some form of disability. Children of special needs aren’t always pushed to exercise as their parents or guardians may fear they’ll get hurt; however, just as for any child, physical activity is important for children of special needs as well. The real importance of sports day is what it does for the spirits and camaraderie of the school community. Friendly sports competitions encourage a healthy level of competition between peers and creates a bond between teams as they cooperate to work together to win. It is a great time for students to learn to support each other through both successes and failures.

Sports day at SCEI is a very important day, infact, it’s one of the best days of the school year. The reason being is that it’s a day where we properly get to celebrate our children with their families , siblings and peers. We celebrate the kids for the hard work they’ve put in throughout the year, we celebrate their abilities, we celebrate the fact they’ve been working hard in physiotherapy in order to achieve what they have achieved and will achieve. During sports day the emotional charge is high and there’s a lot of camaraderie among the kids who feel very excited and positive about it since they’ve worked extremely hard throughout the year for it. Sports Day at SCEI is like sports day at any other school as these kids, despite their outcome or their challenges, are just like any other kid. SCEI awards every kid with a trophy, not only because they came first but because they put in the effort, they are able to complete the tasks even if they aren’t coming first place. Whether it’s coming first, putting effort to end the race or being able to reach a goal they haven’t reached before, sports day at SCEI is where we celebrate all these things with friends and family.
