Sports day preparation is an all year round activity even though it’s a sports day. The activities, achievements and goals are set by the physiotherapist, if we have a child who has trouble lifting his legs then during physiotherapy he is using a ball as something to lift his legs up towards, in order to improve that muscle. We use the ball so the child has something to look at and not just doing random leg lifting exercises and no motivation behind it. Sports Day is an effort by us to motivate the kids to do the activities that are done in the physiotherapy room on a daily basis throughout the school year. We set up the goals which they do all year long and then we turn these goals into goals and activities that are eventually used in the sports day preparation. The tasks are divided amongst the kinds based on their abilities so when we have children, we pair them up with their peers so they both are able to achieve something equally fun. If we have a relay and if they can only walk a few steps, we then turn into a relay where the kid that can run will run and hand the ball to the kid at the end of the line whose only a few steps away from the finish line and this way both kids are able to participate together and achieve things together and that way we encourage a lot of peer relationships, supporting each other and we take each others skill levels and combine them in a way both children end up being successful. Managing the kids is definitely a challenge, at every sports day, teachers are assigned to one or two children and those teachers motivate and support those children and encourage them throughout the process of the sports day
